World Health Day-April 7, 2007

World Health Day Theme: “Invest in Health, Build a Safer Future”

World health day is celebrated on April 7, 2007. This year’s theme is international health security with a focus on urging Governments, Organizations and Businesses to invest in health.

Though Governments are spending big amounts on health care, it failed to keep pace with emerging diseases and natural disasters. With increase in income and change in diet habits, life style diseases like Obesity, Diabetes and hypertension are getting epidemic proportions even in developing countries. We failed to control AIDS and other preventable diseases. More than 90% of countries are not in a position to face bio-terrorist attacks, SARS and natural disasters.

Though private philanthropists like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are spending big amounts on Vaccination (Immunization), we still failed to prevent Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis and Polio. Polio cases are still reporting from countries like India, Thailand etc.

Primary health care system is in complete shambles in most of the Asian and African countries.

1. Governments should allocate more budgets to Health and Sanitation.

2. Primary health care system should be strengthened.

3. Each and every child should be vaccinated as per Immunization schedule.

4. Life style diseases should be kept under control by increasing awareness among the people.

5. 50% of Medical Insurance costs should be paid by Governments.
