It is due to the infection of gram negative bacteria. Causes of Bacterial Meningitis: The most common cause of meningitis is bacterial infections. That may start in other parts of the body and spread to the brain is spinal chord via the blood stream The gram- negative bacteria commonly affecting the meninges are: 1. Pseudomonas aeroginosa 2. Escherichia coli 3. Enterobacter aerugenes 4. proteus and Klebsiella group. Several risk factors are associated with the causation of gram-negative meningitis with which include: 1. Recent brain surgery 2. Recent procedures associated with final fluid shunts 3. A severe urinary tract infection with Escherichia coli infection-which may trigger an attack of gram-negative meningitis. It is more common among infants than others. Bacterial Meningitis Symptoms: 1. Fever 2. Severe headache 3. Nausea and vomiting 4. Stiff neck 5. Sensitivity to light 6. Change in mental status 7. Urinary problems. Allergy – types, causes and treatment
Whenever a person develops an excessive abnormal reaction or sensitivity to an environmental substance or agent which is otherwise harmless or innocuous, such reactions are called allergic reactions. The agent that provokes an allergic reaction is designated as an allergen. The disorder that occurs due to persistence of such a reaction is called allergy. An allergic disorder may affect nose, eyes, skin etc. Allergies can be classified as: 1. Allergic Rhinitis- It is the allergy of nose which changes with seasons due to pollen from plants. The nose itches, becomes red, develops severe sneezing and also running of the nose is present. 2. Allergic conjunctivitis—allergy of eye is characterized by, allergic redness and swelling of the conjunctiva which is a thin transparent mucous membrane covering the outer surface of the eye. 3. Allergic dermatitis—it is skin allergy showing hives or urticaria and in which itching is the first symptom, followed by pale red swollen skin etc. The allergic constitution in persons is because of certain genes which these individuals carry or due to inheritance. There is about a 25% chance that one inherits an allergy from a patient. The percentage increases 75-80%, if both the have allergy.
